English Lacrosse hosted the National POP Lacrosse Championships at the University of Hertfordshire on Sunday with 25 teams from all over the country including Scotland and Wales competing. All the teams competing at this year had already successfully qualified through their regional tournaments to secure their place at the 2014 finals.
The level of Lacrosse at this year’s championship was particularly impressive, with each game exhibiting fast paced, end-to-end action. The players, coaches and parents must also be congratulated for making the atmosphere at this year’s event so much fun and a joy to host.
Hale Prep. School was crowned the 2014 Champions for the second time with a victory over Scottish school, Drymen Primary in the final. Hale’s victory was even more impressive as it was only the second time they had entered the tournament in as many years.
Drymen were undefeated until the final, beating the eventual winners and defending champions Hale in the group stages. The final saw both teams playing some of their best Lacrosse. Hale learnt from their earlier defeat and took control of the game early on and never looked back. Drymen fought valiantly but could not get a foothold in the game. Final Score: Hale 6-3 Drymen
Whilst the Championship final was taking place on pitch 1, the Plate final was being played on pitch 2. The plate finalists were Heathbrook v the Downs School; this was another great game, which saw Heathbrook crowned plate champions winning 5-4
English Lacrosse would like to thank all the schools who competed in the tournament and hope to see you at the 2015 POP Regional and National finals.
