Richmond Athletics Ground played host to the 1st Women’s International match in April 1913, fast forward 100 years and again it hosted an important lacrosse event. The celebration of the 100 year anniversary was marked with an official luncheon at Richmond.
A day of context was completed by the Patron of the English Lacrosse Association addressing the attendees. HRH The Princess Royal arrived by helicopter at the venue and was welcomed by English Lacrosse President, Clare Stoot and WPC chair Sallie Barker. HRH The Princess Royal began the afternoon by meeting various representatives from the lacrosse community, players past and present, volunteers and staff members were able to speak to her about their involvement with the game. HRH The Princess Royal then delivered a short address to the room, prior to lunch being served.
Post lunch entertainment was delivered by the GB Hockey legend, Kate Walsh. Kate held the attention of HRH The Princess Royal as she spoke of her personal achievement during the Olympics to overcome a broken jaw and continue her Olympic experience, culminating in an Olympic Bronze medal.
