Surrey Youth Lacrosse League
A new summer Surrey Lacrosse League for junior players is being planned as the game continues to grow in the region.
Players aged ten to 16-years-old will be able to join four mixed teams for six weeks of competition at different venues around the county.
The Summer League will provide an outlet for players who are introduced to the sport during the Surrey Youth Games, which runs from April to June, in recent years.
Players will selected into four balanced teams that will play each other in a round robin league with two games every weekend – with venues including Epsom and the Surrey Sports Park, in Guildford – leading to a Finals day.
The league will mix players together from different boroughs with each team having a lacrosse coach and manager.
“It is a great way for players to keep going with lacrosse through the summer,” said Danny Buckland, of Epsom Lacrosse Club and organiser of Epsom & Ewell’s SYG squad. “Interest is growing in the sport and many players want to continue playing after the SYG so this is an ideal opportunity.”
The scheme has the backing of English Lacrosse, Epsom & Ewell BC and Guildford Lacrosse.
Lacrosse is booming in Surrey which will host the 2017 World Championships at the Surrey Sports Park. The men’s World Championships will be held in Manchester in 2018.
