Mavericks started the scoring early in the game with Charlie Bergqvist scoring in the second minute of the game after already having two shots saved. Becky Thomas and Kelly Watt would increase the lead for Mavericks either side of Royals power play goal (Sasha Sassoon). Royals would play a tactical second quarter, scoring first and then trying to maintain possession of the ball in attack during the Mavericks power play. Mavericks proved to much in midfield and managed to gain two more goals through Watt and Thomas (7-5 Mavericks). The last two quarters were a close affair with the Royals enjoying more of the play with Clare Faram putting in a shift and creating opportunities, including clearing the ball herself and going all the way to goal to finish one of her two goals. The final whistle meant that the Mavericks finished with a one goal lead to take their first game of the day.
