Men’s Academy set off for an action packed US Tour

This Sunday (26th October) the England Men’s Academy will embark on its first ever overseas tour. 24 players and 5 staff will travel to Philadelphia for 9 days of intensive lacrosse action. The schedule includes four games, two clinics and participation in the prestigious Quakerfest Tournament.

The Academy will play against squads from Malvern Prep, LaSalle, Radnor and Avon Grove, all are powerhouses of the Philadelphia lacrosse scene and Malvern Prep finished last season as State Champions and are ranked 3rd nationally.

The first clinic will be held at Penn University with Mike Murphy and his staff and the second with John McEvoy Head Coach of Malvern Prep assisted by Tony Resch.

Resch was the assistant Coach for the victorious USA team at Manchester 2010 and has recently been named the Head Coach for the USA Indoor team that will play in next year’s FIL World Indoor Championships in Buffalo.

On Sunday 2nd November the team will play in the Quakerfest Tournament which is one of the premier fall ball tournaments and attracts some of the best travel teams in America.

“The reason we are taking our group to such a hot bed of lacrosse has nothing to do with winning or losing and everything to do with ‘LEARNING’ stated Head Coach Dave Elwood.

Our stated aims and objectives for the players are:-

  1. To gain an understanding of their role within a large squad setting in a competitive and challenging environment.
  2. To experience the mental and physical requirements of playing multiple games in a short time period.
  3. To adapt to new coaches and different coaching strategies.
  4. To enjoy the learning experience and gain an understanding of a different sporting culture.

This is a fantastic opportunity for our players to gain a huge amount of experience in a very short space of time. We also hope for them to gain an understanding of what International Tournament Lacrosse is all about, playing every day against high class opposition, having to get up and do it all again tomorrow irrespective of the result the day before. Please ensure you keep checking our website for updates on the tour.
