NEMLA – League Week 2 Report

Stockport go to the top of the table on goal difference after easily handling Manchester Waconians, beating the Didsbury club 25-4. Greg Rowlinson led scoring for Stockport with 5 goals. Josh Sherry-Brennan, Tom Patterson and Stevie Howe each contributed four goals, Joe Singleton scored two and James and Mike Pomfret each added a goal each to complete Stockport’s tally.

The league new boys went head-to-head at Bridgefold Rd. Rochdale pressed home advantage to claim two points over rivals Wilmslow. The game was close throughout and had to be decided by a single goal. The second quarter was the deciding factor in the game with Rochdale scoring 5 goals. Quarter scorers were 3-4, 5-2, 2-2, 2-2.  Dave Watson was the star performer for Rochdale leading the scoring with six goals. Rob Nugent and Glen Humphries scored two goals each. Aaron Duckworth and Danny Moody each contributed a single goal, final score 11-10.

Timperley were in action against Sheffield in an extremely close contest at the Sheffield Hallam University Sports Park. The game was decided by three goals with Timperley earning their first victory of the season beating the Steelers 13-10. Ollie White and Mike Armstrong led the scoring for Timperley with four goals each. You can read the full match report HERE.

Poynton entertained Brooklands in a one sided fixture beating the Sale club 16-6. Youth was on show from both clubs with many having impressive games. One of those players was Team England U19 hopeful Alex Russell who had a standout performance for the Blackbirds leading the scoring with 5 goals. You can read the full match report HERE.

Cheadle and Heaton Mersey are both back in action this weekend, with the Champions crossing the Pennines to face the Sheffield Steelers. Heaton Mersey will be taking on Wilmslow at the Phoenix Sports Club. Stockport entertain Brooklands at Cale Green.
