The second annual National Club Championship took place at Broughton Park Rugby Club on Sunday.
The event saw three games take place with the north women’s champions Oxton Lacrosse Club taking on both the south west champions Bristol Bombers and also the North Women’s representational team in an exhibition game.
In the men’s championship north league champions Stockport Lacrosse Club took on the south league champions Spencer Lacrosse Club.
In the women’s game due to the absence of the South East champions Centaurs Lacrosse club there was only one game between Oxton and the Bristol Bombers.
The game was a one sided fixture with the northern champions winning the game 23-5. In the earlier game Oxton also beat a North Women’s representational team.
In the men’s game Stockport lifted the coveted Iroquois Cup in a competitive game against Spencer 10-6. The first half was the close with the score 6-5 at half-time. Spencer would win the third quarter but a solid final quarter performance from Stockport ensured the northern champions would lift the coveted trophy.
Stockport captain Tom Williamson commented on the victory: “We are obviously delighted with the result, Spencer made it really tough for us and should be congratulated.” He went on to say “It was really pleasing to see our younger team members step up which is really promising for the future of the club.”
Oxton and Stockport will now move forward to represent England in the 2016 European Club Championships in Ghent, Belgium this September.
