Portsmouth Pythons claim clean sweep at Holder Trophy

In a repeat of last year’s success, Portsmouth Pythons were victorious in every age group at the annual Holder Trophy at Spencer Lacrosse Club.

The Holder Trophy is a tournament held for juniors in the South to commemorate Tommy Holder, a stalwart of Southern Lacrosse in the 20th Century.

At U12 and U14 Pythons and Spencer contended the titles. A very strong U12 squad swept the Spencer challenge away to win 17-0. The U14 game was much closer with the sides level at half-time. However, after a shuffle of positions on the pitch, Pythons eventually won 12-8.

At U17, Pythons faced two Reading teams, Foxes and Spencer. A round robin series of games was played with some incredibly close matches. Spencer and Pythons were both undefeated and met in the final with Pythons winning 3-1.

Julia Bose, Portsmouth Pythons Head Coach, paid tribute to all the players: ‘A few were in their first competitive game, whilst some of the older players had only just graduated into the age range.  The dedication of all involved and the commitment of parents, some of whom travel a long way to get to training and matches, makes the club the success it is today.
