Positive Performance for Team GB against World Champions

Team GB put in a very respectable performance against recent World Champions, USA, eventually losing 14-6 in their second match of the World Games 2017.

The game was tied after 20 minutes and even after the USA began to push ahead, GB continued to compete, led by Emilie chandler finishing with 12 saves.

GB actually took the lead through Emily Gray and after she scored a second and Liv Wimpenny got a third, the scores were tied at 3-3 with GB doing some good work on the draw to gain plenty of possession, Gray finishing with 5DC.

As the half went on, the US began to step up the quality and the cohesion of playing together regularly began to show as Brooke Griffin and Alyssa Murray both scored a double and Kelly Rabil got one to give USA a commanding lead.

But GB kept them honest throughout, Iona Dryden getting her 3rd goal of the tournament to pull one back and Chandler was in inspired form making seven first-half saves to frustrate the US attack and restrict the scoring to 4-8.

The second-half generally followed the pattern from the end of the first, with USA controlling spells of possession, but Team GB having opportunities of their own.

Taylor Cummings scored two, while Rabil, Carr, Tumolo and Griffin all added second-half goals for USA with Katie Lehovsky and Claire Faram registering efforts for Team GB.

After just two matches together as a squad, Team GB will take a lot of heart and reflect on a strong effort against USA, the side they will face again tomorrow in the semi-finals.
