The South East Women’s Premiership starts this weekend; with nine teams competing for the Premiership title this season.
Centaurs are hot favorites yet again this season, with an array of Home Countries international talent including all-world team and England international Laura Merrifield. The Centaurs lost only one game last season to Putney; they will start the season looking to add another title to their tally of premiership titles.
Blues are seen as the Centaurs main rivals in the title chase, the club have been training hard for the upcoming season and have added two talented players to their ranks in Claire Faram and England Captain Lucy Lynch who join an already impressive array of ex-England and club players.
Putney finished second last season and have made strides to challenge for the title this season.. Alex Carnegie-Brown will return in goal, to provide the southwest Londoners with a solid foundation to build on defensively.
West London and Hatch End Hawks will also be in the mix this season both clubs have young teams and were highly competitive last season against the two dominant teams in the league, Centaurs and Putney.
The league is tipped to be highly competitive in the top half of the league, however with a number of scheduled international weekends conflicting with league dates, teams like Central London, Harpenden, Newbury Royals and West London could be in with a chance of causing some upsets.
Clapham finished bottom of the league last season, they have been busy building a new team over the summer, this includes the appointment of a new coach and two talented players in England’s Annie Hillier and Camilla Hayes who will join fellow international Cat Gaunt. With Gaunt and Hillier at the back they have a good basis of a quality team this season.
