The 2017 Rathbones National Schools Lacrosse Championships got underway today with Round 1 of the U19A competition.
The air of anticipation for the start of play on Day 1 was even greater with the first games of the day being pushed back until 12noon due to the adverse weather in the morning.
However, the weather gods were kind, the rain abated and the wait for play was worth it as 56 teams delivered a real feast of lacrosse action on the opening day.
178 matches took place across the day with the teams playing for the right to advance in to the Championship bracket for Saturday’s play.
2016 winners Berkhamsted safely negotiated their passage to the last 16 after winning a deciding game against St Albans for the right to top their group with the losers going through in 2nd.
Six teams won every match in their group with St Catherine’s, Lady Eleanor Holles, Caterham, Benenden, Guildford High and Downe House all advancing with 100% records.
Although only 16 teams progress to the U19A Championship group, every team will have something to play for on Day 2 as each team is placed into divisions based on their respective group finishing positions.
On Day 2, The RNSLC17 Under 19 champions will be crowned as well as the rest of the divisional winners. In addition to this, our U19B Competition will take place tomorrow, allowing as many girls as possible experience the event.
Please note: We are currently having some technical issues generating the schedule for tomorrow, however we are working to fix the issue and this should be resolved before tomorrow.
