Team England women’s squads completed a clean sweep over the weekend at the 2017 Rathbones Home Internationals in Cardiff.
Four England teams competed across the tournament with the Senior A and B squads as well as the Under 19 A and B squads all maintaining 100% records across the Home Internationals tournament.
The four team Senior A tournament, which this year included guest nation, Czech Republic, was a fiercely contested affair with England coming through close games against Scotland and Wales after defeating the Czechs 15-5 on the Friday.
After going 6-1 down against the Scots on Saturday, England produced a spirited comeback to pull the deficit back to one at half-time, and then managed to pull away in the second-half to set up a winner takes all clash against Wales.
The match against Wales proved to be an equally close contest with England going in at half-time 4-3 ahead. The Lionesses then extended their lead to 9-3 before being given a scare as Wales came back hard to bring the scores back to 9-8.
However, England managed to secure possession to run down the clock and take the 2017 Rathbones Home Internationals title.
Jane Powell, National Talent Development Manager, expressed her pleasure at the performance of all four teams across the tournament.
“The depth of English women’s lacrosse is growing year on year and the results of the Senior and U19 B squads in particular reflect that – I am pleased with the progress we are making and each year we strive to improve our performance.
“It was very pleasing to win all four competitions and so the strength of English women’s lacrosse against some strong senior opposition that the World Cup squad will face again in July.”
