Team England head coach Tom Wenham has announced details of an upcoming senior men’s training camp to be held at Hillcroft Lacrosse Club as part of his team’s ongoing preparations for the 2016 ELF Men’s European Championships this summer in Budapest.
This camp will mark the first time the senior men’s team has held a training camp in the South for sometime. Wenham commented that “We’d always had a residential camp in our plans and an England camp in London is long overdue.” The camp follows a successful camp held by Team England U19’s last year.
“The feedback from the U19s was nothing but positive and like them we’ve also been lucky enough to have the support of Henning Schmidt who has done a huge amount to make the residential possible. It’s a great fit for us with access to quality facilities and affordable accommodation as well as doing what we can to help support the development of the game in the South.”
Wenham also announced that Team England would also be holding an open training session/clinic for coaches to attend on Saturday 28th May.
“On the Saturday we want to open our training session up to any Southern coaches who would like to have a closer look at an England practice. The idea is that myself and possibly the other coaches will give a presentation on our coaching and playing styles starting at 11am and we’ll then take the coaches out to the field to see the players in action. We’ll also be on hand to answer any questions that the coaches might have.”
The European campaign will begin in 84 days against Team Germany. English Lacrosse will be publishing interviews and feature articles in the coming weeks as we build up to the championships.
