Scotland were no match for the United States as they suffered a 23-0 defeat here in the quarter-finals of the World Championship.

Randall Goldsborough and Lauren Aumiller led the way with four goals each for the defending champions U.S., while MVP Crista Samaras and Quinn Carney both scored hat-tricks as the hosts booked a semi-final showdown with England, 6-5 conquerors of Wales after over-time in their quarter-final clash.

Cherie Greer (2), Kate Kaiser (2), Danielle Gallagher, Kelly Amonte Hiller, Rachael Becker, Kristin Sommar and Joanne Connelly were also on the scoresheet as the U.S. never looked back having led 18-0 at half-time.

"It was became evident very quickly that it was going to be an easy match, but we made the game as competitive as we could," said U.S. head coach Sue Stahl.

"We played well. We were very strong and knew quickly that we were going to win the game."

Stahl, though, acknowledged tomorrow's showdown with England will not be as plain sailing as their victory over Scotland, but is condfident her team can get to the final.

"I've seen England play twice and we've played them in the pool matches. They are a strong side so I know it's not going to be easy tomorrow," added Stahl.

"England has to worry about us all, though, because everyone has been on the scoresheet except (Christie) Lindsey (the team's goalkeeper).

"I'd settle for a 7-0 lead against England again, that's for sure," said Stahl, referring to her side's first encounter with England, which yielded a 13-5 victory.

"England were nervous against us in that first-half, but they have nothing to lose and I expect them to come out and give us a tough game.

"England are very fit. Lois (Richardson) has worked hard with them.

"We are the favourites, but this is a new team to that which won the gold medal in 2001.

"I don't feel the pressure, the only pressure you get is from the fans. Me and the players are not feeling any pressure."
