Stockport arrived in Hamburg for a whistle-stop tour on Friday 15 September, a little later than planned but excited and ready for the weekend. We took a mainly U-12 team - the older players had been involved in the Metros tour over the summer and we feld that the younger players should be given this opportunity to visit an international side. That said, we added a few U-14 players to boost the side and balance the team. We knew the opposition would be bigger than us. The younger players deciede they wanted to camp, and some fathers took the opportunity to camp out with them. The older players in contrast decided they wanted to get a taste of German culture, and were hosted by the families of the Hamburg lads.... The first game against Hamburg was a tense match, Stockport won the first face, but from the start it was a hard fought game with possession swapping sides quickly. Hambug, i think, were a little surprised at the tenacity of the Stockport players what we lacked in size we made up for in determination and skill. It was a close game but Hambug were able to make their advantage count, finishing 5-2 winners...
