Cheshire have claimed the Brooklands Trophy, as winner of the historic Cheshire v Lancashire game in 2007. The cup was presented by incoming Lancashire Chairman Alan Boyle, who expressed hope that the fixture, which has only been played sporadically in recent times would once again become a regular feature in the sporting calendar.
Behind strong play from the current England goalie Ben McAllister, and the midfield scoring of Poynton star Sam Davidson, Cheshire cruised to a 6 - 1 lead, before stuttering badly in the fourth quarter. Lancashire embarked upon a spirited fightback, orchestrated by Rochdale LDO Greg Rose, and managed to get the score back to 8 - 6 with four minutes left to play, but Cheshire quickly went into an invert and killed the contest with a long final possession.
Earlier in the day the Cheshire U-16s had a similar experience with their Lancashire counterparts, getting up early, and then clinging to a 10 - 9 lead as time expired.
Ashton-under-Lyne Lacrosse club hosted both games on the new astroturf at Tameside Stadium.
