The University of Cumbria is offering potential sports and fitness coaches the chance to get the qualifications they need to advance their careers, with funding available towards paying their course fees.
‘Get Qualified NW’ can provide applicants with 60% of their course fees capped at £200 for a level 2 and £300 for a level 3 for certain sport, outdoor and fitness qualifications. It’s the third time the university has run a ‘Get Qualified’ scheme, which has helped over 1,000 people gain sporting qualifications since 2007.
Full time students will not be eligible for the funding and applicants will have to live or work in the sector in the North West. All applicants have to do is apply online at www.getqualifiednw.org.uk
‘Get Qualified’ is managed by the university’s School of Sport and funded by the European Social Fund and the Learning and Skills Council. The University of Cumbria is the lead organisation involved with a variety of delivery partners including various National Governing Bodies, County Sport Partnerships and the National Skills Academy for Sport and Active Leisure.
Dr Dave Houlston, Head of the School of Sport, said:
“We are committed to helping people in the region advance themselves and achieve the career goals they set themselves. This is the third time we’ve run this scheme but the first time its remit has been extended to the fitness industry as well as sport and the outdoor sector. This means that we can help even more people gain the qualifications to realise their ambitions.”
