Hale Prep Crowned National Champions

 Hale Prep School are toasting sweet success having won the National Pop Lacrosse Championships at the weekend.

 The on-song Cheshire-based Primary School did not qualify for last year's annual tournament at the University of Hertfordshire.

 But this year returned and claimed their first national title in front of a large crowd.

 Having finished top of their qualifying pool, Hale Prep impressed with a 10-3 quarter-final victory over Sandon - before beating London based school Coulsdon 9-3 after in the knockout semi-finals.

 And the best was still to come as the school's talented youngsters turned on the style to beat last years winners- William Ransom 5-3 in the showcase final.

 A total of 19 teams competed in this year's tournament, with four qualifying pools – tthree of five teams and two of four teams - giving schools the chance to qualify for the knockout stages.

For those schools which missed out on the Championship knockout phase, there was the chance to win honours in the Plate competition.

 This season saw Southeast team Kingscourt win the Plate final for the first time following an 6-4 victory over tournament new comers Bradfield Dungworth, which is Sheffield's smallest primary school with only 15 Year 6 pupils.

 In the quarter-finals they beat Chipstead,  7-1, before following that with a 4-3 semi-final win over St Marys.
