Cobham Preps & Primary Schools’ Lacrosse Tournament – Sun 7 March 20120 Feltonfleet School
Cobham Sports Association is the largest provider of amateur sport in the borough of Elmbridge, with some 1500 players of different sports – Tennis, Lacrosse, Cricket & Rugby. CSA is trying, with grant support from Sport England and Surrey County Council to encourage more youngsters to play sport at all levels.
We have been running a programme to get more state school girls playing lacrosse and our visiting US coach Lindsey McDonald has been coaching free of charge in some 200 state primary schools.
This culminates in an eight team ‘pop’ (U12) lacrosse tournament on 7th March at Feltonfleet School. This is primarily aimed at state primary schools (all new [mostly] girl players this year) whom we have been coaching free-of-charge over the last two terms.
The match will start at 10.30 and run on a round-robin basis until about 1.00. Schools which we have competing so far are: Feltonfleet, St Charles Borromeo (2), Hurst Park, Cobham (2) and Cleves. The event is being hosted at Feltonfleet School and is free to enter and free for spectators – medals and team T shirts will be provided for all competitors.
We hope to have some guests from Elmbridge Council and lots of parents to cheer things along – it’s a great game – come down to make it a great day. We have attracted the involvement of Savills as a sponsor and I hope to advertise this (and the ability to play lacrosse at school in Elmbridge) on Radio Jackie – so it’s all getting quite exciting!!!
We have some great stories of girls gaining confidence, deciding to go to university and doing great things – just because they started playing sport.
