This year's BUSA Men's lacrosse semi-finals promised a place in the first ever BUSA University Championships, where 20 BUSA sports will decide their overall champions in Sheffield next week.
The first semi-final was the closer affair with Bristol and Oxford exchanging 2 goals each in their opening quarter. While Bristol continued to control larger amounts of possession, it was Oxford who made more of their opportunities, their greater experience allowing them to snatch the second quarter 3-1 and the third 2-1.
Bristol Head Coach Travis Talyor's team never gave up, but simply couldn't generate the same number of high percentage shots as Oxford, who were also more efficient in extra man situations. As the fourth quarter wore on it became clear that Oxford were not to be broken, winning the last period 3-2.

The second semi-final pitched Portsmouth University's relatively green, but enthusiastic side against Edinburgh who fielded an experienced team by British University standards.
Edinburgh quickly opened up a 4 goal cushion in the first quarter as Portsmouth tried to find their feet. The second quarter was much closer, Portsmouth managed to possess the ball behind against the Edinburgh longsticks and slow down the tempo. This more disciplined approach paid dividends and it was the southerners that snuck the second period 3-2. Still, it was Edinburgh who had the better shooters, led by Alex Spann who notched up 4goals on the day, and once the Scottish defenders started to pressure the ball behind Portsmouth's outing was effectively over. A hatrick from Mark Banas, combined with a brace from Francis Geolet allowed Edinburgh to cruise after halftime, taking the third quarter 3-1 and the final period 2-0.
