England attackman Mark Reynolds had a breakout game, collecting six goals in a dominant offensive performance by Dave Elwood's squad.
Spurred on by a great showing at the face-off X from Tom Gallon and Alistair Wallace, who combined to go 19 of 25 on the day, the England shortsticks were merciless against a German defence that never looked anything more than overmatched. Reynolds scored the first and last goals of the opening quarter, sandwiching strikes from Beadle, Bryant and Brauch.
Beadle would add his second of the day, rolling underneath and finishing a fast break led by Gaz Morgan, before Germany would finally dent the score sheet - Josef Kestermann shooting through traffic after a flag was thrown. AJ Beard would get England rolling again on the next possession, faking to shoot from outside and face dodging his way past more timid German defence and slotting home. Tom Caplin opened his tournament account shortly thereafter, with Reynolds grabbing his hatrick on a back door sneak from a 4 v 3 and Brauch doubling up from outside at the start of the third quarter.
Not to be outdone by his fellow co-captain, Dan Green grabbed his first goal of the championship - a nice lefty finish after he picked up a loose ball, just after Sam Dunwoodie had got in on the act to make it 11 - 1. Germany were reeling at this point, switching from man-to man to zone and back again in a desperate effort to find some answers. Truth be told, when the German coaches look at the tape tonight, it was the panic in transition - sewn by Nathan Singleton and Sam Patterson, and a complete inability to carry under pressure that doomed them.
Germany managed to put together a two goal run, with strikes from Hendrik du Bois Reymond and Florian Kriependorf, briefly stemming the tide, but Reynolds would close the third quarter and open the fourth with a fast-break finish inside and a righty rocket from the outside to push England's lead to 14 - 3. By this time Ben McAllister's day had finished, the started was only called on in spurts and all of his nine saves were on the comfortable side. Will Stelfox came in and essentially had to watch the game as McAllister had, only Kestermann managed to mount any resistance, dodging from X righty and getting high enough to slide the ball through Stelfox's legs. By that time, Matt Beadle had completed his second hatrick of the tournament, and the score was 15 - 4.
Paul Flowers made a late appearance on the score sheet, skipping through token German defence and finishing with aplomb, top shelf past an exasperated RJ Degenfelder. Sam Dunwoodie, and AJ Beard both wrapped up braces, before the stage was appropriately set for Reynolds to finish the scoring with a perfectly placed righty overhand shot into Degenfelder's off-stick top corner.
England now await the winner of the Japan v Ireland match-up later this afternoon for the fifth/sixth playoff game on Saturday
