School Coaching Officer 
The Position – Overview: The School Coaching Officer works in a school as an assistant physical educator. Schools are typically boarding and are placed throughout the UK.
The UK school year runs from September through July - programmes usually span this period.
Details of the School Coaching Officer Programme Getting here: English Lacrosse will provide successful candidates with a Work Permit from the Department of Employment. Thereafter, American participants are required to obtain a Work Visa (aka Leave to Enter) from the British Consulate (instructions are provided by English Lacrosse, approx. cost $420) and purchase roundtrip airfare to the UK. English Lacrosse provides detailed instructions on how to obtain your visa. Unfortunately the costs of the Work Visa and airfare cannot be reimbursed by English Lacrosse.
Living and Working here: SCOs are interviewed by English Lacrosse on behalf of the participating schools. These schools are located throughout the UK and tend to be single-sex or co-ed boarding institutions. The main responsibility of the SCO is to assist the Physical Education department in the delivery of lacrosse lessons, designing practices, selecting teams, organizing transport, general coaching and refereeing of the school teams. Positions as Head or Assistant coach are available. Schools may request SCOs to teach additional sports during their employment period or may have openings for teaching opportunities in specific fields. SCOs may also be required to coach in satellite schools where directed. The SCO should be willing to provide classroom assistance where appropriate, such as cover for teachers, examination invigilation and study groups. Participants are often required to take on pastoral duties and other peripheral duties; English Lacrosse recommends that a maxiumum of two evening and two morning duties are ideal. The school will provide the SCO business travel when necessary and with office assistance during the contract period and access to personal phone and email if possible. Weekly working schedules will be given to the SCO and to English Lacrosse. SCOs will have the opportunity to play competitively at the senior level if desired.
English Lacrosse will hold induction courses at the beginning of the employment period to give the SCOs the necessary information and skills to execute their responsibilities. The induction will include: a coaching award course, practical umpiring session, child protection awareness, individual interviews about their own position, information about the education system, summary of school life and lacrosse in England. An English Lacrosse officer will be available to assess the programme and assist with programme maintenance and troubleshooting. Participants are expected to bring their lacrosse equipment and appropriate clothing for coaching.

SCO's should plan to arrive in the U.K by August 26th-28th, 2008.
SCOs are entitled to one complete day off per week and school holidays at half term, Christmas and Easter.
Accommodation is provided by the schools. Living situations vary based on the school’s situation, but tend to be furnished rooms on campus for boarding schools or furnished flats near camps for day schools. The school will provide a weekly payment to the SCO of no less than £110.00. SCOs will be covered by the British National Insurance healthcare scheme while living and working in the UK.
Eligibility:
Applicants must have played four years at the collegiate level and at least 50% of the games in their fourth year of lacrosse. Injuries can be taken into account with a doctors note and supporting statistics from the previous year. Div I, II, III and club program participants are eligible, but must support their play with statistics (either substaniated online or through a coach/statistician from the program).

Successful applicants must have a college degree or equivalent, background in lacrosse and coaching experience. To apply, download the application form and send it to Mark Coups either via email or post. Applications are accepted throughout the year and face-to-face interviews take place:
9th to 14th of January, 2008 in Baltimore and 19th to 21st in Philadelphia (to be confirmed), Market Street Marriot Hotel.

Telephone interviews are available for those living far from these sites, but we strongly encourage applicants to arrange a face-to-face whenever possible. All applicants will have to provide the following supporting documents after the initial application is filed:
- Resume* - to be sumbitted with application form
- Copy of valid driver’s license
- Copy of valid passport
- Adult and Child CPR certificate
- State police or national background check for people working with children
- Record of playing statistics
- 2 personal/professional references – at least 1 lacrosse-related (to be followed up by English Lacrosse)
