ELA MEN'S NATIONAL SQUADS JUNIOR ACADEMY.   National Squads is setting up a system of junior academies with the aim of identifying and developing international players and coaches. At least 4 regional academies will be established from which players can eventually graduate to the U19 National Centre of Excellence. It is hoped that in due course there will be an Academy in every lacrosse playing region of England but to get the system off the ground we are starting with two, one North, one South. The instruction and experience given at the Academies while not over-intensive at an early age will help England prepare for future international competition. Specific profiles are to be constructed detailing the qualities required of an England international lacrosse player and clubs will be given guidance from the England staff on developing these abilities. The first North Regional Academy will be on Sunday 19th October at Timperley Lacrosse Club. Clubs are asked to put forward players who are above all athletes with a good attitude, prepared to work hard and learn how to improve and become winners. Coaching will be by England level 3 and level 2 staff and senior England players. Each boy will be given personal assessment, recommendations and advice. There will also be regular follow up. Boys should be 15 or under on September 1st 2008 but no younger than 14 now. Cost will be £30 including an Academy T-shirt. On line registration will be available through the ELA website. For those unable to pay on line a form can be downloaded to complete and post with a cheque. Registration and payment before the event is vital to its smooth running and efficient use of time. Other regional centres are currently being considered and it is anticipated a South Regional Academy will be held in November.
