Child Welfare and Safeguarding

English Lacrosse has initiated a system of Criminal Record Bureau checks on all individuals involved with the sport who are working with children.

The checks are made through The Media Group, a company recommended by the CCPR and which currently undertakes the CRB checks on behalf of organisations such as the Football Association and English Squash.

The contract with The Media Group was made after English Lacrosse took extensive advice from the Child Protection in Sport Unit (CPSU).

A step-by-step approach will be taken to the checking, as follows:

  • Step One – All club welfare officers
  • Step Two – Key individuals working on a regular basis with children at the club
  • Step Three – Other individuals who work with children on an occasional basis at the club
  • Step Four – Any other individuals having contact with children at the club

English Lacrosse will be writing to all clubs giving more detail of this process and how any disclosures will be handled by the Association.

The cost of checks will be £17.50 for volunteers and £48.50 for professional coaches..
