2017 Men’s Winter Classic Registration

English Lacrosse is pleased to announce the dates and registration for the 2017 Men’s Winter Classic.

The event will provide all players with high level competition and enable the England Management to use the event as a trial to make their final selections for the Senior Men’s 2018 World Championship squad and the Under 23 Squad tour to Japan.

The tournament will bring together players from across current and recent national squads as well as individuals who have registered their interest.

The tournament will take place over the weekends of 9th/10th December and 16th/17th December in Manchester. Players should aim to make themselves available for both weekends however, we may accept players for one weekend only.

Players will be allocated to one of four equal strength teams and will play a series of games over both weekends culminating in finals on the last afternoon.

Any player who is eligible to play for England and who wishes to attend as a trialist or a player is welcome to apply and can do so using the form below. Successful applicants will then be added to each of the four squads bringing numbers to approximately 20-25 per team.

The cost for selected players will be £65.00 per person which includes entry to the event for both weekends and a team T-shirt. Each team will be allocated a coach for both weekends and there will be team briefing and planning meetings each day.

Tom Wenham, England Senior Men’s Head Coach, said: “This year’s Men’s Winter Classic will be the trial process for the selection of the World Championships 2018 squad and a high level competition, we encourage players to register who will challenge all trialist and performers.

“England coaches will attend throughout the weekend with both the 2018 WC and the England U23 Squad teams being announced after the tournament.

“This gives the coaches a fantastic opportunity to watch and assess players while they compete for places over four days playing in an elite level tournament.”

Jane Powell, National Talent Development Manager, added: “I am delighted to see our Men’s programme getting together the best 80-100 players who are in contention for Senior England and U23 squad selection – this tournament will afford us the opportunity to see all the players together both home based and overseas, young and old and we will have the perfect opportunity to see who will stand out as a potential player for 2018.”

The deadline to register for selection is Friday 24 November.

To be eligible to play for England players must hold a valid UK passport, be married to a UK national, or have at least one UK parent or grandparent. Alternatively they must possess a Residence Permit allowing them to live in the United Kingdom through the dates of the 2018 World Championships.
