Hale Prep saw off competition from across the UK to take the title of 2017 National POP Lacrosse Champions at the National Finals at the English Institute of Sport, Sheffield.
18 teams travelled to Sheffield on Sunday 25 June for the National POP Championships after qualifying through their respective regional tournaments earlier in the year.
In the morning session, the teams competed in the group stages with the aim of finishing in the top 3 in their group to progress into the Trophy knockout rounds.
Based on the teams’ ranking from the group stages, the sides were then split into Trophy, Plate and Bowl competitions for the knockout stages in the afternoon.
The knockout stages were characterised by some exceptionally competitive and high-quality action with a number of the matches going to overtime in search of a winner.
The Trophy competition eventually delivered an England v Scotland final with Hale Prep from Altrincham facing Strathblane Primary from Glasgow.
In a close contest, Hale Prep eventually ran out victorious, winning their fourth National POP Lacrosse title in the last 5 years.
In the Plate Final, last year’s national champions William Ransom defeated St Peter’s, while in the Bowl Final, Withington Girls beat Ghyllside in overtime.
