Day 4 v Germany
Despite the Germans trying to put the English off their game by handing out Haribo before the start, such was the concentration of the England team that the gummy bears were left out to melt in the heat.
The team were fresh from a practice in the morning which had involved a walk through of tactics to be implemented in the game. However it took until well into the first half until the team started to fulfil these conditions and the Germans capitalised on this by taking 2 goals in the breaks of England’s possession. At midway the score was 12-2.
In 23 degrees the team had a directive halftime talk by coaches Butt and Harle to encourage the defenders to send early slides and for the attack to show dominance through width and momentum. Draw controls continued to be impressive with Merrifield and Bruce winning 4 each. New tactics in the midfield caused consistent breakdowns of German transition only allowing them to score once in this half. Other highlights include a phenomenal clear from goalkeeper Keogh to assist Gray in the attacking third as she slotted home a one on one with the German keeper.
Full time score was 21-3. The team is looking forward to playing the Lederhosen-clad Austrians tomorrow.
