English Lacrosse recently held a Young Activators Course at Reigate Priory Dragonflies LC in Surrey. Organised by English Lacrosse regional officer Joe Burnett and delivered by course tutor Connor Dockery an Irish international and local PE teacher. The course introduces coaching to participants under the age of 16 that are considering taking up coaching in the future.
The day consisted of a rundown of the key skills needed in lacrosse as well as being able to identify common faults that players have when they first play the game. Following this, participants discussed the England Lacrosse league structure, player/coach development pathways and the rules of the game.
Connor commented on the course: “Everybody that attended the course were a credit to their club and have taken away useful knowledge that will help them with their future coaching roles.”
He went on to say “A big thank you to Reigate Priory Dragonflies for hosting the course last Sunday. It was great to see so many young players take an interest in learning about the coaching side of lacrosse.”
“Everyone was keen and eager to learn new skills and tips that they will use to help them when they go on to complete their Level 1. I wouldn’t even be surprised if these group of girls went on to complete higher lacrosse coaching awards.”
