Timperley Lacrosse Club have lifted the first piece of U19 silverware up for grabs this season, as they defeat Brooklands Lacrosse Club in this years Ted Donnett Tournament Final.
The tournament had been postponed from the scheduled date of 12th October, due to poor weather. However the annual tournament finally took place this weekend and featured ten clubs from throughout the north.
Timperley dominated their round robin games winning all four without conceding a single goal. Coach Mike Armstrong was impressed with his teams performance early on in the tournament; “Not conceding was important, as both us and Brooklands had the same points, that then separated us and ranked us top so we’d play Cheadle in the semi rather than Steelers.”
In the semi-fianls the Stockport Road side beat Cheadle 3-1. In the other half of the draw Brooklands beat Sheffield by the same margin to progress through to this years championship game.
The final proved to be a close contest close, as it always is between these tow sides, with only one goal to separate them. Timperley’s youngsters eventually came out on top, with 3-2 victory over their neighbours and arch-rivals.
Miles Anderson stared for Timperley with two goals, Tim Nichol got the third to seal it for the Altrincham based club. Booklands attacker Tim Hyde got the two goals for Brooklands in the hard fought final game.
Mike added; “We have only lost 2 players from last years Norman Barber Cup winning side, but equally it was good to see 5 players making their u19 age group debut. But we have a young team with lots of promise for the forthcoming season.”
In the Plate, Heaton Mersey beat Wilmslow in the semi-finals 4-2 to progress to the final. In the other side of the draw the combined team of Cheadle Hulme & Norbury beat another combined team Rochdale, Boardman & Eccles and Oldham 4-0. In the final Heaton Mersey brought their “A” game to seal the title 4-0.
Organiser Alison Cara, wanted thank the teams who participated, especially the teams that brought referees and also the Panel Referees for taking part in the tournament.
