Michael lives near Annapolis, Maryland in the U.S. A former newspaper executive, he has been able to maintain a coaching career while transitioning to the sport full-time. He has been involved in lacrosse for over 35 years and brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience to the program.
Michael began playing lacrosse in the youth programs in Maryland. A goalie during his entire playing career, he enjoyed a successful high school campaign and was recruited to play goalie at the University of Maryland Baltimore County. After college, Michael immediately entered coaching foregoing playing at the club level.
Entering his 22nd year coaching lacrosse, Michael has experience in both the men’s and women’s game. After college, he began coaching men’s high school lacrosse winning a Maryland state championships during his 10 years coaching the men’s game. He switched to coaching women’s lacrosse in 2003 spending 5 years as an assistant at South River High School in Maryland. Michael then became an assistant coach for the Johns Hopkins University Women’s Lacrosse team, where he spent three years on the staff. For the past three years, he has been an assistant at Towson University helping lead the Tigers to 2 consecutive NCAA tournament appearances.
Michael has also been a 5-time presenter at the US Lacrosse Coaches Convention. His presentations to college and high school coaches have covered various aspects of goalie play. He has also been involved in coaching women’s club lacrosse for the past 7 years. He is currently the Goalie Director at Maryland United Lacrosse Club.
