Sam has represented England in three senior World Championships and was also a member of three European Championship gold medal squads in 2008, 2012 & 2016. Sam was also the defensive coach for the 2008 U19 England Team that placed fourth in Vancouver, Canada.

Club/School/College/County (Territorial) Experience
A product of Stockport Lacrosse Club, Sam was introduced to the game of lacrosse by his dad Robert ‘Bob’ who also played for Stockport. He starting playing the game at a very early age and was part of Mr. Les Grainger’s junior programme that has produced many England players. Sam has won every major domestic honour in the English game at the junior to senior levels and has also represented his county, Cheshire at all levels.
Getting to know Sam…
Q: At what age did you begin to play lacrosse?
A: My Dad played lacrosse and introduced me to the game. I played other sports first, until Mr. Grainger ‘persuaded me’ that lacrosse was a better choice, I began playing at around 7 or 8 years old.
Q: What’s your proudest Lacrosse moment?
A: Being selected for my first Senior World Championships in 2006 at the age of 19.
Q: Do you have any pre-game rituals/superstitions?
A: None really, just chilling out and having a bit of banter with my mates.
Q: What’s your “Weapon of Choice”?
A: I’m currently playing with an Stringking Mark 1 strung with String King Type 2 Mesh on a STX Surgeon Sc-Ti pole.

A: Love a double Steak and Chicken Burrito from Chipotle.

Q: Who is your favourite sports hero (s)?
A: Paul Scholes, I loved the way he quietly went about his business despite being one of the World’s best players and more recently Conor McGregor for the complete opposite reason, his approach/preparation to fights, his mental toughness and his belief in his own abilities.
