England Women’s lacrosse team retained their title at the Home International series held at Surrey Sports Park over the weekend.
The first match was against Scotland. After a strong start by England and 2 goals by Laura Merrifield, Scotland fought back strongly. England stayed with them and led 8-6 at half time. England then pulled away and scored a further 4 goals through Charlotte Lyotollis. Scotland had a short rally but England pulled further ahead and were convincing winners 16 – 8.

The second match against Wales saw England concede the first goal to Wales in the opening minute scored by their captain Ellie Walsh. This was immediately nullified by Laura Merrifield. The first half was tight with neither side setting up many scoring chances – at half time England led by 5-3. Wales again started strongly in the second half through Fowler and Butcher but England regained the momentum through Merrifield and Brett with 5 goals between them in a 10 minute period towards the end of the second half. Final score England 12 Wales 6
