Portsmouth Pythons Win The Holder Trophy

Sunday saw the annual Holder Trophy tournament played at Spencer LC in South London. It is an tournament held for juniors in the South to commemorate Tommy Holder, a stalwart of Southern Lacrosse in the 20th Century. This year Portsmouth Pythons swept the board across U12, U14 and U16 age groups.

Pythons are a unique club based in south Hampshire in that they juniors only and have no senior attachment. Working with limited resources, Tracy Woodall, club administrator and Julia Bose, club senior coach have shown that dedication, enthusiasm and continuity can produce good young players with a team ethic and sporting attitude. Neither do they lack inspiration and skill. Their reward was to garner the trophies! It was pleasing to see the revival of juniors in the Somerset area with an U14 team from Bath.

Under the tutelage of Nik Roberts, development work at Wringworth School, Radstock is paying off. Spencer had teams in the U12 and U14 age groups, whilst the U16 age group saw Reading with two teams and Epsom who contested the final which Portsmouth Pythons won 4-1. The Portsmouth Pythons teams were also joined by two Foxes at U12 and a further two Foxes at U16.
