Following the Men’s Winter Classic and Trials over the last two weekends, Head Coach, Tom Wenham, has selected the Team England Men’s Senior Performance Squad for 2017.
The Performance squad selection, along with a Development squad to be announced at a later date, represents the first steps towards preparing Team England for the 2018 Men’s World Championships in Manchester.
The 28-man squad will now train together over the next year at a series of training camps and tours.
The group will first meet on 22 January to begin preparations for a full calendar for the Performance Squad which will include a tour to Dublin to take on Amercian NCAA side Towson in June, before heading to Australia to play series of matches down-under against the Aussies and Japan in July.
The selection process took place over an intensive four days, with 90 players attending the Winter Classic at the Men’s Team Headquarters, Platt Lane, Manchester, to showcase their talents. The squads were each allocated coaches from across the UK with full-field, E-ball games and a comprehensive game-planning and review process across the two weekends.
After selecting the Performance squad, Coach Wenham remarked that the selection process was extremely challenging for the assessors, who were very impressed with the talent on display.
“All the coaches are extremely excited about the squad we’ve been able to select,” commented Wenham.
“There’s a great mixture of experience, along with players who have made the jump up from the U19s and we’re really looking forward to working with this squad as we start our preparations for the Australia and Japan Test Series this summer.”
