CRIMINAL RECORDS BUREAU

The Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) is an executive agency of the Home Office and has been set up to help organisations make safer recruitment decisions by providing wider access to criminal records information.

The CRB will therefore assist the ELA in implementing the Child Protection Policy, through a service called ‘Disclosure’ by identifying who may be unsuitable for working with children under the age of 18.

Under The ELA Child Protection and Implementation Procedures all staff and volunteers throughout the sport of Lacrosse who have access to young people under 18 years of age must apply for disclosure.  The process which is a mandatory requirement will be facilitated on behalf of the game, by The Media Group (TMG) who are a registered body with the Criminal Records Bureau.

The designated personnel required to complete these forms are:-

  • All Club Welfare Officers
  • Key individuals working on a regular basis with children at the Club
  • Other individuals who work with children on an occasional basis at the Club
  • Any other individuals having contact with children at the Club

The disclosure forms must be completed by the individual, who must obtain a form from the Club Welfare Officer (CWO), (blank forms should be kept in a secure place whilst waiting distribution) or other designated personnel, who must verify the applicant’s proof of identity.

The CWO will themselves have gone through the disclosure procedure.  They will then be able to countersign the application prior to forwarding to TMG.  TMG and the applicant will then receive a copy of the disclosure.

It must be stressed that the offences The ELA will be concerned with will relate strictly the suitability of working with children.  Where offences do appear, all applications will be treated on their own merits.

Personnel needing checking have been identified above, however it should be noted that this list is not exhausted and if a CWO feels that persons within their club are liable for checking they should discuss the same with The ELA WO.  The ELA WO may also issue directives from time to time regarding positions to be subjected to a CRB check.

If you have any questions about completing the Disclosure Application Form, please contact.
