English Lacrosse: Working with Competition Managers

This one-pager has been put together to help Competition Managers in the new areas to understand the position of English Lacrosse for the roll-out National Competitions Frameworks.

Key Points of Planning for Regions, Counties and Competition Managers.

We currently have 4 Regional Development Officers based North, South West, South East and North West, and 45 localised Development Officers, linked to clubs, CSN’s and SSPs.

We have prioritised counties using the criteria below.

·         Regional Officer support available.

·         Lacrosse Development Officers or community  coaches in post to potentially offer added support to the competition programmes.

·         Infrastructure of Lacrosse clubs or satellite clubs to provide sustainability.

·         Strong existing links with PDMs within the county

·         Relationship with County Sports Partnership

Our framework is based around our player development model and as such is linked to all of our resources including teacher training courses and resources, and leadership awards.

How can SCMs and CMs work with us?

Based on the size and nature of our infrastructure your first port of call should be central: this is Emma Mooney who is based at the National Office in Manchester. Queries regarding any aspect of the framework can be directed to Emma via email: E.Mooney@englishlacrosse.co.uk

After this point of contact you will be directed to local regional officer for the area. If there are no such contacts in your area but you are keen to develop Lacrosse to increase the number of sports that you engage with, or due to specific interest in the SSP we will be able to assist you in the organisation of CPD courses for teachers within the partnership by liaising with your PDMs.

Existing data sources?

We have details of areas supporting both local and regional development officers and accredited clubs ready to distribute to you, but can also provide contact details of other local clubs who may be able to use the competitions that you coordinate as a stimulus to their own junior development and then work towards accreditation. Similarly, it may be that a locally based coach has the time to assist, and we can help you to find this out.

Key work for SCMs/CMs in the next 12 months?

If you choose Lacrosse as a sport that you wish to deliver then your key work will vary according to the local infrastructure. In those counties that we have identified as priorities, you may find that for example Key Stage 2 competitions already exist but that there is a dearth in provision in Key Stage 3. This detailed information is county specific and will be revealed through local liaison, for which English Lacrosse Competition Manager or Regional Officer can provide assistance.

It may be that there are no precise exit routes into clubs however that should not mean that you discount Lacrosse. We are able to provide regionally based festivals which can be accommodated throughout the year and set either indoor or outdoors, catering for young players across the age spectrum of the framework. These events will help to provide visible pathways for young people inspired to play Lacrosse through your work, and will be fantastic mass participation sports events for young people to enjoy.
