English Lacrosse’s National Talent Manager Jane Powell announced today that Nicky Budd will continue on as Team England U19’s Head Coach following a highly successful campaign at the 2015 FIL Rathbones U19 Women’s World Championships.
Budd led Team England to a bronze medal finish in Edinburgh with a 10-9 victory over Team Australia, the first time England has beat Australia in a medal game. The achievement was made even more special with captain Liv Wimpenny and goalie Amelia Ruiz also being named on the All-World team.
Budd who also competed for England is currently the Director of Sport and Head of Lacrosse at Lady Eleanor Holles (LEH). She led LEH to U15’s glory at the 2015 Rathbones National Schools Lacrosse Championships beating St Catherine’s 3-2 in the U15A final.
Jane Powell commented on the announcement; “I am delighted that Nicky has put herself forward for another U19 cycle, whilst I was delighted with the result the girls achieved in the summer, I feel certain we can raise the bar in a number of key areas to enable further success under Nicky’s leadership”.
Budd commented, “I feel both privileged and excited to be able to lead the U19’s through another cycle. I have learnt so much over the last four years and I can now use that experience to take England to even greater heights.”
English Lacrosse would like to wish Nicky every success and look forward to working closely with her as she prepares Team England U19’s for another U19 World Championship’s in 2019.
